Sociological Analysis of the Relationship between Religion and Culture in the Koloman Tradition in Strengthening the Religious Beliefs of Madurese People

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between religion and culture with Koloman traditions, with a particular focus on the role that culture plays in bolstering Madurese society's religiosity from the perspective of sociology of religion. Qualitative research is what this field study is all about. Three study findings were generated from the sociological theory of religion viewpoint. First, Koloman is found in the Madurese community tradition as a local tradition that functions as a slametan, prayer request, a medium for strengthening friendship, and respect for the ancestors or forefathers who built Madura. Second, although Koloman was initially considered a local tradition, it eventually became a larger tradition. According to the Koloman tradition, contact and confirmation are the processes that shape the bond between religion and culture. Although religion and culture are seen as distinct realities at the time of contact, they share certain characteristics, such as coexisting in the same societyReligion and culture were viewed as complementary social realities during the time of confirmation.. In this instance, religion is preached or propagated through Koloman customs and culture. However, as religion shapes society, the application of Koloman has greater significance because it incorporates spiritual and theological elements. From the perspective of the sociology of religion, the spiritual and religious dimensions in the Koloman tradition are reflected in three values: belief values, ethical values, and social values.
